Look 10: Space Cadet
So right now (which is December 9th, not the day this posts… I like to write in advance
) there’s about 5″ of snow on the ground at home, and it’s currently still snowing at work. Blech! I wore my shearling boots today, which were a gift from my mom (they’re not Uggs or any name brand, just some random brand, so I pulled a similar, reasonably priced pair off-line and linked for you), paired with a new graphic tee and new blazer, both of which I got over the weekend. I’m still a little chilly, but at least my feet stayed warm and dry when scraping off the car this morning! I only wear skinny jeans or leggings with my shearling boots, because I feel like the bulge created by pants that aren’t super fitted on the leg isn’t flattering (ok, fine, I think it looks stupid, there, I said it!).

On the first night of Chanukah, I thought it would be fitting to share this holiday story, as well as plead for support for this family from my readers.
Back in October I got a comment on my “Handbras for Boobies” image on one of the modeling sites I’m on. It was from a woman named Renee Klingler, and she told me that cancer was a cause near and dear to her heart. When I checked out her portfolio, I found out why. To keep it short, Renee is in a courageous, yet long-term battle with cancer. Despite this, she continues to live life to its fullest, modeling as her condition permits, being a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society, and organizing other awareness projects. To top it off, Renee has 5 beautiful daughters, ages 11, 7, and 5-year-old triplets.
Recently, Renee suffered a serious setback, which almost took her life. With the huge medical bills continuing to pile up, additional child care expenses, and Renee’s being unable to work, things have become extremely difficult for the Klingler family. And if anyone’s family deserves a happy holiday, it’s Renee’s.
Enter Lori Benoit and Rich of Gonzo Photos.
Lori, a photographer who’s worked with Renee, got with a friend and created the website www.supportreneeskids.org, to help Renee’s daughters get the Christmas they deserve. Visitors can find out more information, donate through PayPal, and find out how to send a gift direct.
Rich got wind of the situation and decided the website just wasn’t enough. He wanted to create an event to get people to donate. Rich got the partners at Studio MLP in Racine, WI to open their doors on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 for a group shoot charity event, benefitting Renee and her family–the “Creating a Christmas Miracle” group shoot. The event is $50 for photographers, with 100% of that going to Renee and the girls. It’s free for models, but models are encouraged to bring toys, clothes, or monetary donations to send to the family. Participants will be there to shoot from 6P to 10P, with doors opening at 5P to set up. Weather-permitting, I’ll likely be there around 7:30P.
Donate via PayPal to help Renee and her girls out this holiday season. Click here.
Interested in attending the event in Racine? Go here for more info.
Please, if you have even just a few pennies to spare, donate a little bit to help Renee’s family out. Renee has requested that no gifts of money be given to the family, so everything sent will go towards gifts & goodies for the kids. If you want to donate, but live too far away and/or choose not to use PayPal, you can send checks, giftcards, toys, clothing, or anything else for the girls to the following address:

Renee, I wish you many more happy holidays with your beautiful daughters. May you see them grow into women as courageous, strong and beautiful as you are. You are in my thoughts :hugs:
Readers, I wish you and your families a happy, healthy holiday season, and thank you for any support you send to Renee and her family.

Look 6: Red & Gold
This is an old shot, but still one I love. The photographer was going for this film noir, Hollywood beauty, still-from-a-movie type shot, and it all worked out perfect! We shot this at my apartment, in the long hallway on the top floor connecting the two halves of the building. For the wardrobe, I wore a strapless, A-line dress I’d gotten for a very last minute sorority function, faux pearls, CZ studs, the gold heels I wore for my cousin’s wedding, and a vintage gold clutch I picked up at an estate sale for $2! The MUA did wonders with my hair, gave me a perfectly clean face and simple eye, and popped my lips with a great orangey-red lipstick. In person, the look was fantastic, but on camera, it was absolutely breathtaking! Everything shot redder than we’d anticipated… even my hair!

Look 9: Warm & Cozy
Woke up this morning to a little bit of snow on the ground, and decided to dress a little warmer than usual. Was going to wear my shearling boots, but since the walkways were clear of ice and the snow was more of a dusting I opted to go with heels instead. Not quite ready for winter yet, and the vest and shearling boots were just too much for me LOL. I’m keeping warme with the turtleneck, vest and scarf, though inside I’m not wearing the hat.

Look 5: Bright Tights
This look is a lot of fun
The shoot, which the photographer has called “Industrial Living Room” was taken at his workplace, and was just full of good times! Krystyn, the MUA, rocked it. I will only be noting what I’m wearing, and not picking up any of the other clothing items featured in the shoot. For this shoot, we wanted bright but simple, and fashionable.

Look 4: Night Out
This look is rather simple, and one that nearly every model woman should more or less already have in her closet. It’s The Little Black Dress, of course. What makes this particular LBD special is the detailing on it. It’s a satiny material with a lace overlay, all black, so it’s got some pretty neat dimension. It’s also gathered at the top, forming a flattering sweetheart/ballet like neckline. While I’ve worn a variety of shoes with this particular dress, the classic sky-high pump never fails to elongate legs. I paired my dress and heels with a long strand of deeply colored, irregularly shaped freshwater pearls, which I tripled up, and a black satin clutch. I left off earrings and just let my hair hang over my ears.

I’ve done this a little different, since my dress isn’t available at all any more (it’s made by Laundry, and I snagged it at a steal during a sale). I’ve gone and found three looks that I love, which I’ve listed for you below. And not only that, but I’ve looked at three different pricepoints too, ’cause, well, I’m cool like that
The pumps in look one happen to be the ones I’ve got on in the above shot.

Look 7: Rockin’ the OTK Boots
Simply put, when I saw that over-the-knee boots were again this fall, I had to snag a pair, with plans to wear them not just on weekends, but to work as well. Of course, once I got them, I had to figure out a way to make them work-friendly for some of my more conservative (not-into-fashion) coworkers. Instead of pairing them with leggings and a tunic sweater or fun shirt like I would on weekends, I’ve opted to dress ‘em up a little with grey skinny jeans and my trusty boyfriend blazer. I added the scarf and flower bobby pin for a punch of color, because under my blazer is a wonderful white V-neck T
I have to limit wearing items that push the dress code to work, and since we’re not supposed to wear shirts with graphics or writing on them, the white T fit the best (paired with potentially-dress-code-pushing OTK boots).

Look 3: Street Chic
So how long before I start having a really hard time coming up with names for these looks? LOL. Anyway, this look actually started with this great pair of dark red shoes I got on sale at DSW ages ago. I really wanted to wear them for a shoot (though I’d originally bought them for a wedding), but didn’t want to wear them as dress shoes. Instead, I wanted to dress up something a bit more casual. Skinny jeans, a white T, and my ancient (literally, I’ve had it since my freshman year of highschool) leather motorcycle jacket seemed like the perfect casual outfit to snazz up with red patent high heels.

Look 7: Fly & Flashy
Inspired by the verbiage on the invite for a party a friend is going to (no joke). “Fly & Flashy” is the dress code, and that party is at a nightclub in downtown Chicago. Being that I’m trying, when I go out, to not just wear the standard skinny jeans, plain black tank, and black knee boots I always wear, I figured why not do an “Everyday Style” blog that features a new going out look. Being that it’s a bit chilly here, I opted for leggings under a dress and a scarf as an accessory, and stuck to simple faux-diamond studs to keep things toned down a little (and accent my little clutch at the same time). Overall, it’s a flashy look that’s still sophisticated enough for my nearly-30 self
