December M&G Followup
December’s M&G was fairly successful. As usual, tons of photographers showed up–the “Regulars”, as well as a few new faces. It was good to see the regulars, and nice to see the new faces 🙂
There were two minor problems. One was that there was a slight mixup with the restaurant, but it’s taken care of. Another was that their private room had a leak in it, but that will be taken care of by Januaury, so there’s nothing to worry about.
And despite the phenomenal model turnout in November, we were back to a rediculously low number of models (despite a bunch of them saying they’d be out). I belive there were only 3 of us. One of the three was a model who was visiting from Oklahoma. She’s awesome, and I’m glad she made it out. And she even booked a couple shoots while she was in town, with some of the folks she met at the M&G, so that was a major success for her 🙂 Makes me happy! It’s also clear proof that these things can work if you make them work.
Not sure what else to say. January will be different. There’s an event up in Milwaukee that a lot of us want to go up to, and it happens to be the same day and time as the M&G in Mt. Prospect. Though our M&G will end at 9P, the Milwaukee one likely won’t. So chances are, a bunch of us will be meeting at Mt. Prospect and caravaning up to Milwaukee to hang out with that (super fun) crowd. I’m looking forward to it!
There are a few events coming up that I’m planning on attending. There’s other stuff going on, but I’m not going to push stuff I’m not attending and don’t feel is worth it. Anyway…
As mentioned above, there’s an event up in Milwaukee in January. It’s taking place at The Alchemist Lounge, located at 2569 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bayview, WI 53027. It’s on Saturday, January 31st from 7P to 9P (though I have been told that it will surely go longer than 9P). As I said, I plan on heading up with a few others from Chicagoland, and having met some of the WI crowd before, it will surely be a good time. There is no cost, other than gas and food.
There’s also a portfolio building day coming up. It will be held on Saturday, February 7th, at Downtown Pro Photo’s lab in Crystal Lake, IL. The plan is to have 5 models (myself and 3 other girls, 1 other guy), a MUA, 2 studio lighting setups, and assistants on hand. Lunch will be provided, and prints up to 10×15″ can be made on site. Space is limited to 10 photographers. The models have been hand-selected by Jim of Downtown Pro for their reliability and professionalism on set (I can only account for one of the models, personally). The cost for photographers is $250 for the whole day. Models are actually getting paid for their time.
That’s all for now. Again, this is all I’m participating in at this point, in the upcoming months.
