Prostitute/Former Model Amanda Logue & Boyfriend Commit Murder, Robbery

James of SLE Photography, a friend and colleague of mine over at Model Insider, blogged about this piece of news I felt was fairly relevant on numerous fronts.  It involves prostitute/former model/porn personality Amanda Logue (a.k.a. Sunny Dae, a.k.a. Mandi Kaye) and her boyfriend, who worked together to murder and then rob a Florida man.  James’ blog entry, along with a slew of information is below (reposted with permission).  I’ve also linked a few other news stories after the repost of the blog, that weren’t available when James wrote his blog.  Please note that some of the links James provides may contain NSFW images and/or porn.

I was contacted today & notified that fairly well known model Amanda Logue, who did adult work under the name Sunny Dae, has been arrested in Georgia on charges of prostitution & murder, and is pending extradition to Florida.

For reasons unknown, Amanda took all her profiles down from Model Mayhem (www.modelmayhem.com/373020, unfortunately MM blocks spiders so there’s no archive available), 2kmodels.com (a sort of Model Insider/MM/OMP site for porn work), OMP, and other sites a few months ago.  Her profile (cited in some news stories) is still up at www.weselectmodels.com/view/amanda.html?id=2005, where it oddly says she won’t do porn, even tho she’s still listed on several adult company sites under her working name: http://www.realitykings.com/amateur-models/25673/Sunny-Dae.htmhttp://bangbrosnetwork.com/t1/profiles?m=Sunny-Dae1 for instance (both 18+).

UPDATE/EDIT: Amanda had new profiles up under the name “Mandi Kaye” and was actively soliciting work.  For example: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1619702

UPDATE/EDIT:  I missed it, she never removed her profile here: http://www.modelinsider.com/577

One of the concerns often expressed in debates about escorts is the safety of the photographer, especially with the infamous “boyfriend escort.”  While Amanda was never militant about escorts & was willing to be reasonable in discussions about it and advocate things like checking references or taking another model, she often stated that her PREFERENCE, especially when traveling, was to take her boyfriend as her escort.  While this doesn’t play directly in to what happened here (since this was not a case of an escorted model booking with a photographer thru a site like this), it makes something she said on the topic once particularly ironic:

http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=438966&page=4#post9584306

Its a simple solution…If the photographer does not allow your escort then move on there are others that will…If the photographer does allow a escort make sure you bring someone who knows how to conduct themselves in a professional manner…If your scared don’t bring someone for protection just don’t shoot…It does not matter if you have a escort if your scared you will still be uncomfortable and then the photographer will be uncomfortable also and the results will be less quality work…A escort such as a BF can be a ok experience if they allow the photographer to do his job and if the BF does not have the mind set that he is there for protection…A mature model that is serious about their work should have the intelligence to not bring a gang member or drug dealer or mofia or anyone that will interfere…Also references !!! both model and photographers should take a little time to check out who they will be working with…If they have a reputation of being unprofessional then that should be your first and biggest qlue not to shoot…

(Emphasis added.)

Altho Amanda had removed many of her profiles, she was still actively in touch with a number of models & photographers, including me and my girlfriend.  My girlfriend was scheduled to shoot with Amanda & Amanda’s boyfriend (with him operating the camera) at FetCon.

Apparently, according to that WeSelect profile & the news stories, Amanda’s been running a lingerie shop & hosting lingerie parties and offering herself for sex in addition to her modeling.  This must not have been bringing in enough money, as she scheduled a “sex party” with a Tampa area man and then proceeded, with her boyfriend’s assistance, to murder & rob the man.

As described in the story, she went in to “work” while her boyfriend waited outside.  While in the house, Amanda texted her boyfriend, including one text that said she wanted to have sex in the house AFTER they committed the murder, clearly showing it was planned.  She wore the man out with sex, then while she was giving him a massage her boyfriend came in (according to her), crushed the man’s head with a sledgehammer, then they stabbed him repeatedly before emptying his house of cash & valuables.

This is clearly a fairly rare case, JUST as rare as those of prostitutes who’re occasionally killed by guys who the media reports as being “photographers,” and certainly can’t reflect ALL models who demand escorts, or all boyfriend escorts, but it DOES show that the risk CAN exist for photographers.  Does that mean I think photographers should base their behaviors & choices on it?  No, of course not… because it’s EXCEEDINGLY RARE and outside the boundaries of normal interactions on sites like this.  That’s exactly what the point about this sort of thing on the other side of the coin has always been… it’s irrational to base broad assumptions or poor logic on isolated incidents.

UPDATE: As more info has come to light about this case, it’s clear that this guy was NOT the bf/husband who so many of us in the community have met & known, and sometimes had present when Amanda was working, or at social events.  Turns out she was stepping out on her husband with this guy.  Friends of the family describe him as a “devil” who lured her in to a bunch of bad things. Also of interest is that the “sex party” was apparently videoed, with the police IDing her from the footage, which she left behind.  This makes me wonder about how the victim found her, as some adult models will offer “extra” services or try to skirt prostitution laws by saying that if it’s filmed it’s porn, not prostitution.  I’ll be curious to see how this all came about.  This also shows a major hole in references, since anyone asking about Amanda would have been told that she & her husband were great folks & perfectly safe when, in reality, she would have shown up with this guy and no one would have been the wiser.  This shows trhat even with references you need to keep your wits about you & take reasonabel safety precautions when meeting people.

Object of Lust: Nook

I’m totally obsessed, and I haven’t even gotten a chance to play with it in-stores yet!  I just snagged a pamphlet on the way out a couple weeks ago, and did some research.  I most definitely want one!  I’m thinking of maybe seeing if I can get one before heading out to Maui… the way I read, it’ll be far easier (and lighter-weight) to take this along versus :does the math: the 4 or 5 actual books I’m sure I’ll read while there/traveling to and from.

Huge Loss: Alexander McQueen

I would like to take a moment to express my sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Alexander McQueen, who has passed away as the result of suicide. His death is a huge loss to the fashion world (which even I know, despite not being very involved in that specific part of the modeling industry).  He will be greatly missed, and was truly an exceptional talent.

Here are some articles:

And the fashion show with the incredible shoes:

May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones soon be at peace despite their loss.

I know I promised updates while on vacation, but I wasn’t as connected as I would have liked, so I didn’t get to them.  Soon, I promise!

ANTM Cycle 13

I watched.  I’m not 100% sure what I think yet.  I missed a bit at the beginning because I was making food.  I’m sure as the season progresses I’ll have more to say.  Especially after next week’s meeting with Wilhelmina.  Will be interesting.

Shout out to Sarah from Cycle 8 who came and hung out with us to watch 🙂

ANTM’s Short Season: Trying Out?

A lot of people are pushing me to try out for Season 13 of ANTM.  Even my fiance is telling me I should go for it.

For those who don’t know, America’s Next Top Model Season 13 will be for models 5’7″ and under.  It’s Tyra’s warcry to short women everywhere that we too, can rock the modeling world, like Kate Moss and Eva Pigford!  RAWR!!

Anyway,I’m going back and forth on it.  So I figured, why not see what my tens of thousands of dedicated blog readers think?  So folks, now’s your chance to shape my future!  I’ve made a poll… just input your answer, and we’re good to go!  Of course, I might not base my decision on poll results, but it’s nice to see what others think 😉 So start voting!

ANTM’s “Short Season”

Thanks largely to Roger Talley and www.newmodels.com, I knew that, as a 5’3″ Caucasian woman, I had no chance of being famous, or even well-known as a model.  Of course, locally I’m pretty well-known, but that’s because I’ve worked my ass off to network and build a good reputation for myself.

Sure, I’d love to have my face all over billboards or in magazines, but really, who am I kidding?  I’ll likely never be in a local campaign, let alone a major one, and I most certainly won’t be walking the runway for any top designers in major shows, no matter how fun I think it is.  As I’ve noted before, it’s best to not assume you’re the exception.  I know that I’m most certainly not it.

Now, normally, this would all not be a big deal.  However, it has come out that the next season of America’s Next Top Model will be their “short season”.  That is, the show’s requirements are that models trying out to be on the show much be 5’7″ OR BELOW.  Don’t believe me?  Check out their website, and read the eligibility requirements PDF: Top Model Cycle 13 Casting

And while I have little interest in trying out for the show (although the prospect of being close enough to Nigel Barker to touch him is quite tempting), it’s kind of tempting.  However, the show will be taped from April-June this year, and I’m getting married in June… and have no desire to be on some reality show while attempting to plan my wedding and get things nailed down.

I do, however, have to wonder what they’re going to be offering these girls, and if they’re going to be taking girls who are way to short to have a career in modeling (such as myself).  The website asks that girls trying out for the show send in a VHS or DVD of themselves, and that that video must, “at least include you showing us your best runway walk.”

Runway walk?  Really? Are these shorties going to be walking runways like the past contestants did?  I can already hear the results of the go-sees… “the designers thought all of you were beautiful, but said you’re all just way too short, and wouldn’t book any of you”.

So, I guess the point of this post is, what could Tyra and CG possibly offer the winner of the “short season” of ANTM that would be realistic?  I can’t imagine the contestants who don’t make it (as they always seem to be the more successful ones) would be going on to work major campaigns around the world, or walking runways in Europe for top designers.  Unless, of course, they’re all exceptional.

Any thoughts on any of this?

(Side note, my fiance thinks I should try out, and seriously just said, “we could reschedule the wedding”.  He thinks the exposure would be worth it.  I think he’s nuts.  He also just informed me that he thinks Nigel Barker is attractive.  We will surely be talking more about this.)

A Bittersweet Blush Victory For…

If you haven’t seen the Blush finale, stop reading now!

The Blush finale aired.  I watched. Before I get to the winner…

Todd did, in fact, pass away.  There was a (very) brief “In Memory of” screen that came up, with Todd’s name and photo, at the end of the episode.  It was rather unsatisfying, for me, but in light of when he passed, and the fact that (to my knowledge) there’s no real info about why he passed, I think it was sufficient.  And I’m glad they touched on it.  As far as I can tell, there’s nothing “official” on the Lifetime website (though I’m sure there’s stuff in the forums there).

And now, the winner…

Nolan won, despite his mistake in the 3rd fashion show look.  I thought everyone did a great job, but actually agreed with the judges when it came down to it.  Maxi’s work was… eh.  I liked his second look with the white line, but wasn’t keen on the arrows at all, and felt the stenciled stuff was too distracting.  But the judges loved it all, and I didn’t really agree with that.  I did agree that Maxi was just too dramatic, and that caused unnecessary chaos.  However, Todd, unfortunately, lost it for some reason, and it was really disappointing.  Overall, his stuff just fell flat, and that made me sad (sadder still that I knew that he wasn’t with us anymore).  But despite that, he had huge–everyone says potential, but I say fuck that, he had honest-to-goodness talent–and you could tell that he truly loved what he did, and loved life.  He was radiant, and a wonderfully gracious loser.  That alone made you realize what a great person he was.  His passing is a true loss to the industry, and to everyone who knew him in general.  My heart goes out to everyone.

I imagine the airing of tonight’s episode was bittersweet for Nolan.  It’s clear he and Todd became close friends throughout the course of the show, and winning the show, followed by the passing of a close friend, a friendship that was the result of the show… I can’t even imagine.  I send many virtual hugs to Nolan, and to the rest of those who knew and loved Todd.

Todd Homme

Apparently Todd Homme, from Blush has passed away. I can’t find much info, but here’s what I did find:

  • A comment on the Blush website, supposedly from Nolan, sharing the news: Link
  • An article on Busted Daily sharing the news: Link

Not sure about anything else… not sure what the show will do, as it’s still in season, and frankly, I’m not even sure how true it is. Mayhem is down, so I can’t even verify info there. On Todd’s MySpace page though, there are no RIP comments or anything of the sort yet.

I suppose if I hear any other news, I’ll update.

If it is the case that Todd has passed, I hope he rests in peace, and that his family, friends and loved ones all find comfort.

If it’s not the case that he’s passed… I don’t even know what to say, other than the fact that I apologize for aiding in spreading such a terrible rumor.

I hope the latter is true… :/

EDIT (12/16/08): It does seem to be true that Todd has passed away 😦 This article was linked on Mayhem, and last night I noticed a lot of comments on Nolan’s MySpace page relating to it. Todd was apparently found dead by his partner, and no drugs or alcohol played a factor in his death. They’re still trying to figure it out. Such a shame. He was so talented, and really seemed to love life. I adored him on Blush. Rest in peace, Todd. My deepest sympathies go out to Todd’s family, friends, loved ones, and colleagues.

“Blush” on Lifetime

Last night I discovered that Lifetime’s show “Blush” is available on Comcast’s OnDemand. So I watched the first two episodes. And despite it being seemingly low-budget, on a TV station that seems to be missing the proper target audience mark, having models that can’t support the look for some of the competitions, and using crappy photography to “showcase” the final looks… I’m in love with the show.

I know it’s not necessarily the most realistic approach to makeup artistry, but it’s still a fun watch. The drama makes it a guilty pleasure, and the creativity makes it interesting. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about it as I watch more episodes 🙂

My favorites are Nolan and Todd 🙂 I adore them. I also really like Maxi’s work, but am not impressed by his attitude.

I do think the talent on the show will continue to “improve”, as it did in episode two from episode one. I don’t doubt that the folks on the show area already talented, I just feel like the challenges presented (as well as the models and photography) haven’t given them a chance to properly showcase it.

But yea, expect more blogging on the show as the season progresses. For more info on the show, as well as a chance to watch full episodes, you can go here: “Blush” on LifeTime
