Spotted Again!

After my wedding in June 2009, I shot a Vogue Bride set with Laura Ann Photography and Christin C. We fell in love with numerous shots from the set, but this particular one stuck out to us:

So Laura had Blue Cube Imaging print and mat a copy of that shot, which we brought over to the bridal shop I got my beautiful dress at, Doris Bridal in Highwood, IL.  As you can imagine, they loved it, and put it up behind the desk right away.  I went by a few weeks later with some of Laura’s and Christin’s business cards, and it was still up 🙂

So today, I was grabbing their address for someone, and decided to browse their website.  And what do I find on their About Us page?  ME!  In the shot they’ve taken to show off their space, you can see the print Laura and I delivered, prominently displayed.  Pretty cool!

Grr!

So yesterday (the 16th) I got a call at 5P from the jeweler I ordered my other half’s wedding band.  I placed an order there for his wedding band on June 5th, and was PROMISED it would be in my hands no later than June 16th, as the estimated delivery date was June 15th.  Yesterday.  I quadruple checked before I ordered, and was assured that yes, it would be in in time, and not to worry.  It worked out perfect considering we’re leaving for Indiana Thursday so we have time to get our marriage license and whatnot.

We opted to order from this particular jeweler because their price was just $44 (after tax), and we didn’t see a point in shopping around for a plain titanium band at such a low price.  When I ordered it, I paid in full because I could afford the full price all at once easily.

So Monday after work I went to pick it up, and it wasn’t in.  I was told it would probably be in today.  So when the chipper little voice on the other end of the phone told me she was calling from the jeweler, that’s what I figured.

Boy was I wrong!

Now it won’t be in until the 30th.  Ten days after the wedding!  And they waited until 5P 4 days before the wedding to tell me this.

Oh, but it’s ok!  Chippy talked to her manager and they can help me out!  I can purchase a plain white gold band for “just” $100, and can return it within 30 days (by which time the actual band I ordered “should be in”) for a full refund.  If, of course, they have the size I need in stock.  Gee thanks roll

It pisses me off that I was assured it would be in in time, and now it’s not only not going to be in, but in order for the original jeweler to have something for me I have to spend $100.

I immediately got a call into another jeweler, who’s going to check on it for me and let me know first thing if they can get it in time.  These guys let me know that if they can’t get it in time, they could probably work something out with what they have in stock, and give us “a loaner”, because the other’s half’s ring size is pretty standard.  I spent 4 hours calling 9 different jewelers, calling the other half’s best friend (who has some pull with a couple jewelers… neither of which can help me out unfortunately), going in to 3 more jewelers on the way home, even going to Wal-Mart, and searching online.  I also stopped at my fiance’s parents’ house, as there was a ring there I’d bought him about 5 years ago… but it’s not in great condition and isn’t something either of us wants in pictures.

That, and I don’t want the other half to have a loaner, because he’s got a race the next day… and if something happens to the loaner, we’re stuck paying for that too.  I don’t want either of us to have to worry about that.

It’s 5A now, and I’ve been up since about 20 after 4… something woke me up and I’m not sure what.

Anyway, Overstock had the band I needed in the style and size the other half needed.  Their price was $39.99.  I ordered it and paid $35 to overnight it to my parent’s house in MI (which is right over the IN border–wedding’s taking place in IN).  At the latest, we’ll have it Monday.  Tomorrow (er, today) I’m going to run to Sterling Works in the mall and see if they have something that’s at least close to what he wanted so we can have a nice ring in photos.  Worse case I return it unused, if the one I ordered from Overstock gets there in time.

I’m also going to call the original jeweler and demand a refund.  If I have to go into the store and do it, I will, but I’ll be nice for now and not make a scene.

And to think I wasn’t stressed, worried or nervous… and all I needed to do was pack, make sure I had everything together for the wedding, and make a schedule for hair/makeup for the girls on Saturday.  None of which got done, and now all of which is stressing me out.

GRRRRR!!!

Wedding Weekend: Looks

For those who aren’t aware, I’m getting married in 8 days 😀 June 20!  Yay! So, of course, I’m planning very special outfits for the whole weekend.  And to keep myself organized (and entertained at work a little) I’ve decided to put together looks, similar to how they do in some magazines, for the weekend’s outfits.  I tried to use as much of the actual outfits I’ve got as possible, but it didn’t always work out.

Rehearsal Dinner
I wanted to look special, but not too dressy.  I fell in love with the dress when I found it and knew it was perfect–easy to dress up or dress down.   I wanted this outfit to sort of have my own flair to it though.  I think it works really well all put together, and isn’t too dressy or too casual.  It doesn’t scream “I’m the bride!” but I didn’t really want it too.

The dress I bought was an off-season one I found at TJMaxx.  It’s Calvin Klein, and is actually the one I shot in with Mariah Carle, pictured in the previous post.  Frustratingly enough, there wasn’t a single dress similar to it anywhere online (that I was able to find), so I had to substitute something of similar color and general shape.  It works to get an idea of the look.  Everything else is pretty much spot on, minus the fact that I need to find myself a cute shrunken blazer to go over the dress.  That’s my task tonight (along with getting flip-flops for our groomsmen and ushers).

The Look
Calvin Klein gold pleated A-line dress.  Black Wild Diva gladiator heels. Kathy VanZeeland motorcycle purse.  Belt & earrings from Express.

Rehearsal Dinner Outfit

Day-After Brunch/Afternoon at the Racetrack
The day after the wedding my grandma is hosting a brunch, and then the other half has a race (which I’ll be attending after the brunch).  So I wanted something fun, easy to layer up or down, and pretty.  I wanted it to say “I’m ready to relax and have fun” without being frumpy, boring, or too everyday.  Perfect opportunity for the maxi dress!  I opted for a solid one and went with some fun accessories.  My favorite one is the big bag I found, which will be great for a book, some extra layers (like my jean jacket), a bottle of water, and any other necessities I might need that day.  There’s definitely  more to this outfit than the rehearsal dinner one LOL!

This one was a bit easier to find things similar to what I had.  The dress (also found at TJMaxx) is solid green instead of patterned, but looks pretty much the same.  The bag I’ve got is way cute, because instead of just being plain straw, it’s got multi-colored strands woven in it, which tie in great to the colors of the scarf (which my friend Lonni spotted for me last night–good eye Lon!–I had something else before that oh-so-perfect one).  I’ve got pretty dangly silver and shell earrings to wear, and a cute fitted cardigan in case it’s just a little chilly out. I went with flats in case my feet hurt from dancing all night 😉  And a roll-up straw visor in case it’s really sunny.

The Look
Green Max Studio maxi dress.  White V-neck cardigan from H&M.  Denim jacket, also Max Studio.  Gladiator sandals by A.N.A.  Rosetti hobo tote.  Butterfly scarf from Charlotte Russe.  Aviator shades from Express.  Earrings from Target (I think–they’re old).  Roll-up visor from Target.

Brunch Outfit

So those are the planned outfits for the weekend.  Minus, of course, the wedding ensemble 😉 That’s kinda top secret until afterwards though.  Not sure if the other half reads this or not haha!

I feel pretty

I had my trial makeup run for the wedding earlier tonight, and I feel pretty.

Which is funny, because it’s not like I’ve never had my makeup done, and incidentally, the girl who’s doing my face for the wedding is someone I’ve worked with off MM a couple times.

But I think it’s the principal of things.

This is different makeup.  Different from photoshoots, or everyday stuff.  It’s special.

And that’s what’s making me feel pretty right now.

Ok, ok.  That, and I have false eyelashes on too 😀

Calling all Shoppers

I need help finding a super cute maxi dress for the day after the wedding… and I don’t want to spend over $50 if I can. So far, I’ve checked all the obvious places, but haven’t found anything that strikes my fancy.  Well, I’ve found one I like… but I want to see a few more options before I get it. ‘Cause yea, I gotta look cute that day.;)

Especially now that soon-to-be hubby and I have been given the go-ahead to leave after brunch and head to the track! 😀

Now taking suggestions via comments, email, YIM or AIM 🙂

Screw drafts…

I’m just too darn busy to write right now.  This wedding planning stuff is kicking my ass… and I feel like I’m not even doing much.

We’re 1 month and 8 days away from the big day, and each day there’s just more to do.

Right now I’ve got to concentrate on getting thank you notes from a shower done, because I have another coming up this weekend.  And then I’ll have twice as many to do.  I keep meaning to do them on lunch at work, but then I don’t take a lunch ’cause I have too much work… Grr.

The plus side of things is that I found someone to make me a birdcage veil.  A MUA from MM, of all things!  She makes little hats, and is going to give this a shot using stuff I’ve bought, and maybe some of her own stash of things too.  It should be pretty neat.  I’m excited!

And Kelli is doing makeup for all of us the day of the wedding, which is pretty bad ass as well.  She’s awesome! 🙂

And on that note, time for bed.

Happy (Late) Holidays

I hope everyone had great holidays!  Christmas-Chanukah (or, as we like to call it, “Jewmas”) brought us wonderful things.  I’ll get to that in a second.  But first… some updates

Chicagoland M&G… TONIGHT!
There’s a M&G event tonight at Mr. Beef & Pizza.  I’m expecting the turnout to be stellar!  I didn’t keep tabs on who’s said they’re coming, but from the looks of things, a lot of folks will be there.  There’s even a model who’s in town visiting who will be coming by!  Awesome.  It should be good.  Seems the monthly thing at the same place is working out very well, with a bigger turnout each and every time.

Shoot Results… Sorta
I was supposed to have a shoot Friday.  I was really excited for this shoot, as it was with an excellent photographer looking to commercialize his book a bit.   Perfect!  He’d arranged a MUA, our ideas were perfectly in line, and all was going to be great.

I got to the studio a little later than I planned.  The weather was bad overnight, resulting in some ice that had to be scraped off the car and carefully navigated around on some of the side streets (and the sidewalk), so it took a bit longer to get started than I had anticipated.  But I got there more or less on time.

The MUA, however, was a different story.  Long story short, she didn’t show.  Which was really disappointing, to say the least.  She was someone I’d worked with before, enjoyed working with, and once I found out she was the one who was booked, was excited to be working with again.  But it just didn’t work out.  She decided, for whatever reason, not to come to shoot with me, as the photographer had planned.  He ended up canceling with her altogether.

And I had opted to not bring my makeup with me.  So we didn’t shoot.

Instead, the photographer and I chatted, checked out a space in his building, chose a date to reschedule, and discussed perhaps setting up a group shoot at some point. I hung around for a couple hours.  Part of me would have preferred to just go back home, but I’d driven a little over an hour (and nearly 50 miles) to the shoot, and I really wasn’t looking forward to the drive home right away.

I’m bummed about not shooting though.  I was really looking forward to cleaning out my portfolio and getting some excellent commercial shots.  I’m also bummed (and yes, pretty darn irritated) about the deal with the MUA.  She’s someone I frequently recommended to others, someone I enjoyed working with, and someone I looked forward to working with numerous times again.  As you can imagine, I likely won’t be working with her again, and won’t be recommending her to many others most likely.  Sucks, but that’s what happens

Happy Holidays
As I said before, the holidays brought us great things.  I got a Kitchen-Aid Mixmaster from my parents (as well as some baking pans, which are top-quality Calphanon).  I have yet to use any of them, but I know they will be great to use, hehe.  I’ve been lusting over a Mixmaster for some time, but especially over the past 6 months or so, since my ancient Oster Kitchen Center busted mid-recipe.

From my fiance’s family we got a Wii, which as you can imagine has so far been pretty fun 🙂  We bought Super Mario Bros. and Excitebike (yes, the original NES games) from the Wii store online and played them last night.  We have the Wii sports, which comes with the console, and another set of games that’s sort of like training for using the Wiimote… which I still surely need more work on LOL.  But it’s really fun, and I’m glad we have one now!  I’m sure I’ll be blogging about it more, as we get more games and stuff 🙂

From my fiance I got a Raymond Weil watch.  It’s beautiful, and nicer than any watch I’ve ever had.  It’s silver, with a mother of pearl face, little diamonds at the markers (except at 12, 3 and 9, where there’s roman numerals, and at 6 where there’s the date).  It’s absolutely lovely, and will look exquisite with my wedding dress 😀

We got a bunch of other stuff too.  Giftcards to food places (Chipolte, Outback, Starbucks), I got books, some clothes, and other stuff.  It was nice 🙂

We also finalized our bridal party, asking our neices and nephew to be flowergirls and the ringbearer.  Our neices were so excited.  It was super cute!  They’re 5, so for them it’s like the coolest thing ever.  They got flower girl dresses for their American Girl dolls too, so they were in heaven LOL.  Our nephew, who’s 7, has informed us that he’ll let us know, haha!  I think he’s excited too… provided he doesn’t have something else going on that day 😉 LOL!

All in all, things were nice this holiday season.  As they always are 🙂

Off to take the dog out, get ready, and run some errands before the M&G.
