25 Fall Essentials

Kind of a random post for me, but I made this set on Polyvore last week and thought it would be a good one to share with other models 🙂  It’s my list of 25 fall essentials for 2010.

25 Fall Essentials

25 Fall Essentials by racheljay featuring black wash jeans

Here they are, by number:

  1. Motorcycle jacket. Great for cooler days, layering, and goes with everything—even dresses.
  2. Draped cardigan. Another great layering piece that works with pretty much everything. Best in a neutral color.
  3. Basic turtleneck sweater. Great with jeans, skirts and even leggings.
  4. Plaid shirt. Cute with leggings and jeans, nice for layering.
  5. Blazer. A general wardrobe staple for me, but great for layering, over dresses, and with any bottoms. Easy to accessorize as well.
  6. Dolman sleeve sweater. Pretty with skirts and pants alike, easy to accessorize, and great in neutral colors.
  7. Military inspired vest. Great for layering, and military is in right now.
  8. Little black dress. Whatever looks best on you, a little black dress is necessary.
  9. Sweater dress. Solids and neutrals work best and go great over leggings, tights and skinny jeans. If you get a nice sweater dress you can even dress it up.
  10. Skinny jeans. Great for tucking into boots and go with pretty much everything.
  11. Jeggings. As much as I hate the word, I love the pant! Great with nearly everything, and perfect for tucking into tall OTK boots.
  12. Flare jeans. Great with flats or heels, and pretty much anything else. Flares are my go-to jeans for going out.
  13. Khakis. Great for work but also nice for days you want to be comfy and lay around but still look cute. Find a pair that works both with other neutrals and bold colors.
  14. Black pencil-like skirt. Great for layering over tights, with sweaters, and easy to dress up or down.
  15. Neutral A-line skirt. I found one with pleats that works great both casual and dressed up.
  16. Various tights. I’m a fan of lacy tights, solid neutrals, and texture. All are great under dresses, long tops, and skirts.
  17. Scarves. Great for adding both a bit of texture and a little extra warmth, and work with pretty much any tops, and even dresses. I’m a fan of both florals and plaids.
  18. Nail polish. Right now, I’m obsessed with “greige”, deep sparkly neutral colors, and greys.
  19. OTK boots. I have 2 pairs, one flat leather pair and one heeled suede pair. Both are great with leggings, tights, or skinny jeans, and can be dressed up or down. I do try to always keep my legs covered to avoid the “skank” look.
  20. Fold-over knee-high boots. This year, instead of my trusty black knee-high boots, I went with a neutral color that works with light and dark denim, browns, olives, and blacks. Knee boots work with skinny jeans, leggings, tights… pretty much everything. Even under flare jeans sometimes.
  21. Chucks. My trusty Chucks. Great for casual days… I pretty much wear them whenever I don’t feel like dressing up. They work with everything.
  22. Oxfords. Great for when I want to wear flats but don’t want to wear Chucks. They even work with skirts.
  23. Clog boots. Great with jeans, dresses, skirts, leggings, tights, whatever. A great pair of boots that are easy to dress up or down, and go with pretty much everything.
  24. Statement pumps. I have a pair similar to this, and love wearing them with neutrals to add a punch of color.
  25. Nude pumps. These have replaced my black pumps for now as my go-to safe dress shoe. They work with pretty much everything and make my legs look longer. Win-win!

Fall Shoe Trends: Are You Ready? released their 2010 fall shoe trend list.  Here it is, minus the pics:

  1. Military
  2. Clogs
  3. Cuffed Boots
  4. Desert Boots
  5. Over-The-Knee Boots
  6. Oxfords
  7. Platform Pumps
  8. Hardware Details
  9. Animal Prints
  10. Frosty Fashion

Me?  I’ve got a pair of military boots on their way to me right now (they’ll be here Friday).  I don’t have clogs, but I have a couple pairs of cuffed (or cuffable) boots.  I have OTK boots, both flat and heeled (yay for those, because they’re new and hot!).  I have oxfords, though they need to be stretched a tad bit.  I do have platform pumps, but they’re more MaryJane style.  I don’t really have hardware-detailed shoes, but am planning on making something for a pair of booties that need spicing up.  I don’t have animal print or frosty fashion (do Ugg-type boots count?), and I’m ok with that.  So, as far as the trends go, I feel like I’m pretty set for fall 🙂

If you’re looking to add some of these looks to your closet this fall, check out my picks for each trend.  Each pic is a link direct to the item on various sites.  I’ve kept each pair under $50, ’cause hey, I get not wanting to spend a lot of money on trends 🙂  Also, some of my picks overlap trends, which is cool… and most are available in other colors too, just so you know.

Cuffed Boots

Desert Boots
This is the only section I was unable to keep it under $50 😦 Sorry!

Over-The-Knee Boots

Platform Pumps

Hardware Details

Animal Prints

Frosty Fashion

Emergency Flats

What girl doesn’t need a pair of flats to keep in her purse (or glovebox even)?  I know I’ve been in that place before where I’ve struggled after a really long day, and have either just gone barefoot, or risked destroying my feet (and/or my sanity) by keeping my shoes on.

Well, there’s a perfect pair of shoes for those kinds of days.  Enter the Fold A Sole Portable Emergency Flats, which are just $25!  Genius!

Get The Look: A Breath of Fresh Air

I haven’t done this set in quite some time… largely because I’ve been busy with other stuff.  Bringin’ it back for kicks.

Look 9:
This shot is actually one of my 365 self-portraits, but I thought it would be a good one to do.  Here’s the shot…

Get The Look:
Pair a simple black A-line dress with T-strap high heels.  Though it is hard to see, I wore simple CZ studs and a multichain necklace.  For makeup, I did creme blush on the apples of my cheeks swept up to my temples, smudgy black liner, black mascara, and just a touch of a neutral shimmer (I didn’t use the dark side of the shadow duo).  It’s a pretty simple look that’s elegant without being over the top.  I had actually worn this outfit to work that day.

My Everyday Style 20

I know, I’ve been lacking on this series.  Good news is, I’ve got a ton of outfits to publish thanks to Polyvore 🙂

For those who aren’t aware, hubby and I are finally taking a honeymoon.  Good news is, we are managing to do so within the first year of our marriage!  Woot!  Anyway, I’ve been using Polyvore to help me plan outfits to bring 😉  So this blog will be a little different (as well the ones following it), because instead of linking to each individual item, I’m going to link you direct to my Polyvore set, which makes it easier for you to shop!

Look 20: Laid Back Linen
I found a great pair of white linen pants at Discovery Clothing last week, and was inspired by them to make this set.  Since I’m not one to wear all white, I broke it up with a black tank and a denim jacket (in case it’s chilly), as well as a Liberty of London clutch from Target, and this super cute Eugina Kim for Target fedora (for some extra pops of color).  I snagged these great white wedges from Cutesygirl (where else, right?) and thought the sea horse necklace was a cute nautical touch.  I figure coral nails will really pop against all the neutrals and hints of blues and greens.  I figure this outfit will be perfect for a casual night out, or a day strolling around one of the towns 🙂

My Everyday Style 19

With things warming up here, I figured I’ll post something a bit, well, warm-weather friendly.  I’d brought this outfit with me on vacation, but never got a chance to wear it.  Chances are, I’ll end up wearing it this spring though, on a warm weekend day.

Look 19: Rompin’ Around
I found this great black romper at TJ Maxx 2 years ago, right when they were starting to come back in style.  Mine’s a soft stretchy material that’s pretty nice, with an attached belt that ties in front or back of the same material.  It’s a tube top one with shorts that are bubble hem, and is way cute (though I can’t find anything similar online right now!)  🙂 I paired that with a jean jacket for some warmth and to dress it down a little, and cute cork wedges I got just in time to bring to FL!  I ended up rolling up the jacket sleeves to show off my cute stack of bangles, and wore simple CZ studs to keep it more casual.

The Look:

Get The Look: As usual, the items not available online aren’t linked.
Romper: Different than pictured, but I’d either buy this cute one at Nordstrom or this Roxy one; Shoes: DSWJean Jacket: Max Studio, but Forever 21 has a great one right now; Bangles (3 sets, stacked):Forever21, Forever21 & Forever21; Earrings: Claires

My Everyday Style 18

In light of my discovering the knock-off Miley Cyrus-Max Azaria shirt at Charlotte Russe a couple days ago, I’ve decided to show off the WalMart version of the tanktop in this next look 😉 So, here’s yet another cute outfit from my FL vacation!  And yes, I realize there’s not much variety here as far as shoes, pants, etc. go, when it comes to what I’ve shown so far.  But with the baggage weight restrictions (you have to pay for anything heavier than 50lbs), it’s far more economical to pack light!

Look 18: Sequins & Bows
As I’ve already mentioned in the above-linked blog, this fabulous sequin bow shirt is from WalMart.  Yes, WalMart.  I ended up getting it in an XL because that’s what they had left in the cream (which was the color I’d wanted), but it fit me pretty good, and looked way cute bigger.  I paired it with my skinny grey jeans, my favorite mary-jane platforms, and a cute shrug cardigan to keep me from getting too chilly.  I kept my jewelry simple to not be too heavy on the bling, with the sparkly shirt and all.

The Look:

Shoes: Cutesygirl; Jeans: See Thru Soul (a TJMaxx find, also available at Nordstrom & Macy’s); Earrings: Express; Tank: Walmart; Cardigan: Discovery Clothing

My Everyday Style 17

Taking a break from the vacation wardrobe because I’m totally in love with the outfit I’m wearing as I write this, so you’re getting it!

Look 17: Geek Girl
It’s warming up a bit here, so I’m moving away from wearing shearling boots and towards wearing Chucks again 🙂 I love me my Chucks!  I decided, going thru my closet this morning, to push the dress code at work a little and wear a shirt with a picture and a word on it… but hid the word with my blazer.  Because I worry about shirts that are more fitted riding up inappropriately, I tossed a longer black tank on underneath.  I’m in glasses mode right now, so I’ll consider them a part of the outfit 😉 Simple earrings, and that’s it.

A quick word about the awesome shirt… it was made by a designer (who’s name I don’t know–if you do, feel free to comment!) for a website called TeeFury.  TeeFury has one T design available every day, in either 1 or 2 colors (different for men’s and women’s sometimes), and once the day is over, the shirt is gone forever.  When I saw this shirt, featuring the prominent vehicles/character cars from the 80’s junked up and being sold as scrap, I had to have the shirt, so I snagged it (along with one for Hubby).  I’ve linked TeeFury below, but you won’t likely find this particular design available online anywhere.

The Look:

Get The Look: As usual, the items not available online aren’t linked.
Shoes: Converse (in Charcoal); Jeans: See Thru Soul (a TJMaxx find, also available at Nordstrom & Macy’s); Earrings: Express; Black Tank: Target; Awesome Tee: TeeFury (check out their awesome daily tees!); Blazer: Forever21; Glasses: Kenneth Cole (they’re real glasses, not fake ones, and about 8 years old).

The above linked items were chosen by me with no pay or endorsement requests from the stores.
