VOP blog is online!!  Check it out: thevopshow.wordpress.com

And don’t forget, the auction’s tonight!  I hope to see you there! ;)

Look: VOP Auction

Alright, after doing some research, talking to Caity B (music-geek & photographer extraordinaire), mentally inventorying my closet/accessories, I’ve decided on what I’m wearing to the VOP Auction tomorrow! Here’s the look…

VOP Model Auction Look

And here’s the rundown of what’s what. What I can, I’ve linked for you.

Jacket: BKE Motorcycle Jacket from Buckle
Shoes: Cutesylicious Paddington Platform Pumps from Cutesygirl
Jeans: Black straight leg jeans by Pepe Jeans (I’ve had them for ages)
Shirt: Love This Life Her Butterfly Tee from Hot Mama (it’s sheer burnout like)
Bra: Basic white bra  (I think it’s a CK)
Necklaces: A random selection of silver necklaces I have
Earrings: Sterling Silver Earrings from Express
Nailpolish: Something bright! Pictured is Piggy Polish in Mermaid
Lips: Keeping it soft with a light pink gloss.  Pictured is Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush.
Eyes: Bright green smoky look, using Loreal HIP in Riotous and Flashy, and Wet’N'Wild’s I-Shimmer Retractable Pencil in 696 Sky Lights.

The goal with the look was to be a little rock ‘n roll, and a little Rachel all at the same time. I’ve basically taken something I’d wear on a regular basis, and punched it up by adding bright makeup/nails, more accessories, killer heels, and no undershirt under that burnout tee ;)   I think it’s going to be perfect, and I don’t have to worry about being uncomfortable by pretending to be something I’m not.  Win!

I’m totally digging the BKE Motorcycle Jacket from Buckle.

I wonder if I can pick one up before Friday?  Aside from being a perfect “rocker” accessory for the auction, it looks like a great, versatile piece that I can wear out, to work, or wherever… Spring thru Fall.

I have a bomber jacket in brown leather, but it’s rather heavy, and, well, brown.  I just don’t wear brown that much.

What to wear?

I’m being auctioned off this Friday for the VOP Fashion & Rock Show :)

The auction’s theme is “Music” and we were told to dress in any music style we like, from pinup until now.

I don’t really have a favorite music style or anything, and would like to look cute and have fun with it.

Suggestions? :)

And doing so with a bang!

I shot Thursday evening with one of my favorite photographers, Ron of Wolfdreamz!

Thanks to Summer Hours at work and the holiday weekend, I got to leave work at 2:30P, which meant Ron and I started shooting relatively early (around 6P).  :)   We hadn’t shot in quite some time, because our two schedules just didn’t mesh and I was taking a bit of a break.  But now I’m back! From outer space!

:blinks:  Wow.

Anyway, we, as usual, really pushed our limits and created some kickass stuff.  There was a ladder involved, thigh high boots, and just all around awesomeness! :)   I’ve got stuff chosen already, just haven’t had time to get them up yet.

I hope everyone had a wonderful (and safe) 4th of July holiday weekend!

Oh, and my shoes?  Didn’t come in time :(   Oh well.

“Why Aren’t I Getting Paid?!”

Ten Reasons You’re Not Getting Paid

1. A lot of it has to do with your location. If your town is a small blip off the interstate in the middle of cornfields, chances are, it’s not a great market for regular, decent paying work.

2. If you live in the middle of a cornfield, it certainly isn’t very economical for you to travel to and from the nearest major market to go to castings, go-sees, or whatever else on a regular (possibly even last-minute) basis.  Provided, that is, that your major market is one that has modeling agencies and/or clients looking to hire models.

3.  Bigger cities often have events going on. Certainly if any photographers in a major city are going to hire someone, chances are, they’re going to look nearby first.

4. What kind of work are you looking for? Your portfolio needs to reflect the kind of work you’re looking to get.  Certainly photographers aren’t going to pay a model to stand in their studio, smile, and look pretty when they can find a bunch to do it trade.

5. Get a thicker skin. Someone suggesting you be a housepainter isn’t rude.  If you think that’s rude, find another “full time job”, because modeling is much more harsh than that (especially if you make the move to a larger market).

6. Go to college and get an education. Modeling is a career that typically doesn’t last forever.  An education is something you will always be able to fall back on.  At the very least, take some courses on business, marketing, and personal finance, as they will be very valuable in both the modeling business, and the housepainting one.

7. It’s “accepting” not “excepting”. Presenting yourself professionally will help you get treated like one, which might improve your chances of getting paid shoots.

8. Number 6 also applies to the escort BS. You don’t need an escort on a shoot.  Especially if you’re modeling full time–certainly then the shoots you’re going to have full hair, makeup, wardrobe, and possibly even art directors on set…  but if you’re shooting with regular folks off MM or other modeling sites, doing your research on them first may help.  These articles are good to read: Safety & Due Diligence by SLE Photography and What is Due Diligence in a Model/Photographer Environment? by Curt Burgess

9. Stop using the word “edgy”. It’s meaningless.  Seriously.

10. Figure out what makes you worth paying. Once you’ve done that, market the hell out of yourself.  Here’s a hint: it’s not your height, your hair, how much you rock on the runway, or how much you love modeling… because there’s always going to be someone taller, with the same hair, who can rock the runway better, who loves modeling more.

Inspiration… Block?

It’s sort of like Writer’s Block… in a way.

As I sit here working on shoot ideas for my next shoot, browsing my stash of ideas, my lists, surfing the web, mentally inventorying my wardrobe, and otherwise looking for inspiration, I’m finding that it’s coming to me a little differently than normal.

Usually, I can browse thru my lists on MM and find a billion and one ideas to shoot.  But this time, I’m struggling with that.

I’m actually struggling with putting together ideas for this shoot.

Maybe it’s because I’m sick, and my head feels all foggy.  Or maybe it’s because I’m still worn out from the wedding.

But it’s strange.  Usually I’ve got so many ideas it’s hard to narrow them down.  This time, it’s the opposite.
